Commuting to university in Stockholm

Commuting to university in Stockholm

Commuting to university in Stockholm is generally straightforward thanks to the city’s well-developed public transport system. The metro (Tunnelbana), commuter trains, and buses connect most residential areas with the major campuses. Both the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and Stockholm University (SU) have dedicated metro stations located directly adjacent to their campuses, while Karolinska Institutet (KI) is easily accessible by bus and commuter routes. In most cases, students can expect a commute of 45 minutes or less, depending on where they live.

Cycling is another common and practical option. Stockholm has an extensive network of bike lanes and dedicated cycling paths, particularly well connected in suburban areas. During much of the year, many students choose to bike to campus either for convenience or as a complement to public transport. With reliable infrastructure and multiple transport modes available, living slightly outside the city centre rarely prevents convenient access to university.
