How to get around in Stockholm

Getting around in Stockholm is generally straightforward thanks to its well-developed public transport system. The city is served by an extensive metro network (Tunnelbana), commuter trains, trams, and buses that connect both the inner city and surrounding suburbs. The whole network also uses a single digital ticket system, so you are able to get around without wondering what fare you'll need to pay. For most residents, public transport is the primary way to travel, especially if you do not plan to own a car.

Cycling is also a popular option, particularly during the warmer months. Stockholm has invested heavily in bike infrastructure, with dedicated bike lanes and separate cycling tracks along many major roads. In suburban areas especially, cycling can be a fast and practical alternative to public transport for shorter distances, and many residents combine the two for daily travel.
